Rivers

Xi Jiang (Pearl River) is Chinas 3rd longest river, it is located in the south flowing into the South China Sea between Hong Kong and Macau. It is named after a sandy or stony island in the middle of the river. Chang Jiang (Yang Tze River) is the longest river in China and the 3rd longest in the world. To some it is considered a dividing line between North and South China. Huang He (Yellow River) is the second largest river in China, and the 6th longest in the world. It is called "the cradle of Chinese civilization"because it is the birthplace of Northern Chinese civilization and in earlier history was the most prosperous reigon. Heilongjiang (black Dragon) river is the territorial border between Russia and China.

The Forbidden City

The Forbidden City is called Gu Gong in Chinese. Its a rectangular shape and is the worlds largest palace complex that covers 74 hectares. It is also recognized as one of the five most important places in the world. It is surrounded by a six meter deep moat and a ten meter high wall are 9,999 rooms. There are four towers on each of the corners so the palace and the city outside could be viewed. The Forbidden City is divided into two parts. The southern section, or the Outer Court was where the emperor used his power over the kingdom. The northern section, or the Inner Court was where he lived with his royal family. It began to get built in 1407 it was completed 14 years later in 1420. The stone that was needed to build the wall came from Fangshan, a suburb of Beijing. Huge amounts of timber and other materials were freighted from faraway provinces. The bricks were made from white lime and glutinous rice while the cement is made from glutinous rice and egg whites. Everything in the palace was yellow, because its a symbol of the royal family, with the exception of the library. Its roof was black because it was believed black represented water then and could extinguish fire. The forbidden city was home to over 24 emperors of theMing and Qing dynasties. It got its name because common people were forbidden to enter. but it still was considered a city. The city was only accessible by one of the four gates.

China's Population

China has over 1.3 billion people making it the largest country in the world. Shanghai, Beijing, Nanchong, Tai'an, Kaifeng, Wuhan, Chongging, Chenqdu, Tianjin and Puyang are the ten most populated cities in China.The most common view of chinese origin is that they come from the Yangtze and Yellow river but recently that has changed and scientific evidence shows they came from the South East Asia and then expanded to northern parts of China.

Where is China??

The Northern most part of China is near Mongolia. The Western most part of China is near Pakistan, Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan and Nepal. The Southern most part of it is located near Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia. It is also near the Bay of Bengal and Yellow Sea.
